Social Media Scheduling Tools (Goodbye BoardBooster)

With the demise of BoardBooster I thought it time to review our options for social media management. For this review, we found the platforms designed for small businesses or solopreneurs.  At minimum, we need Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Preferably with Linkedin and Google plus as well. I’ve left Pinterest off this list, as we recommend Tailwind for this. Regardless of the other tools you may use, Tailwind is always a good idea for Pinterest. More on that below.

While comparing these apps I realized it was hard to compare apples to apples. Each one was focused a little differently. So I put all the features into this list:

  • social inbox
  • social scheduling: schedule, queue, auto-publish from a feed, or repeat
  • social listening
  • analytics & link shortener & tracking
  • edit in App or browser extension
  • CRM: keep track of those who engage or evangelize
  • preview: calendar view of posts
  • evergreen library: auto-publish
  • content curation: curate content from feeds
  • content library & image editing tools

Each social media management tool handles these features differently. Where an app did not support the feature it is crossed off. The features explained briefly:

Social Inbox: they provide a place where all messages are curated for your review and/or response

Social Scheduling: each app supports their options on scheduling. Some allow auto-posting from feeds, some allow multiple time slots scheduled at once, some allow specific times, and some require you to put your content into a queue

Social Listening: any mention of hashtags, terms and people that you set up will be curated for you here

Analytics, Link Shorteners, and Tracking: Some provide built-in link shortening services, along with tracking parameters

App / Browser Extension: some apps and browser extensions are for curating/scheduling content and others are for managing your content library, creating images and scheduling

CRM:  Keeping track of people who engage most often allows you to reciprocate, notice your evangelists and actually be social

Evergreen Library: a library of content that you can repeat on auto-pilot

Content Curation: various tools for curation are supported, from user generated content (UGC) to feeds to suggestions

Content Library & Image Editing Tools: some of the apps provide a stock photo library along with photo editing filters and tools

The following apps explain the features, prices and profiles supported. They are ordered from least to most expensive. (There are plenty more social media management apps but I capped the price at $99/mo.)

Tailwind – for Pinterest

We also recommend that you add Tailwind to Buffer. Buffer does allow you to add pins but Pinterest is vital to most blogs. If you are a content producer and rely on Pinterest, we recommend Tailwind.

With tailwind, you can schedule and automate both Pinterest and Instagram. Pricing starts at $9.99/mo.

Features needed specifically for Pinterest:

  • schedule multiple pins at once with bulk upload or browser extension
  • repin & add to scheduler, directly from Pinterest
