Do you ever notice a profile image next to someone’s name on a website? That is a Gravatar, and it is an easy way to make your presence known online.
A Gravatar is an avatar or profile picture associated with your email address that can be used on different websites and social media platforms. It can help you stand out from the crowd and make sure that people recognize you across multiple platforms.
In this article, we will discuss how to create a Gravatar account, customize your profile, and answer common questions.
What is Gravatar?
This is a rewrite from an article in 2016. Gravatars have been in use for a long time. The service has expanded now to include bio information.
Gravatar is an image associated with your email address, which you can use across different websites and platforms. Setting up a Gravatar is simple – all you need to do is register for a free account using your email address, then upload an image that will become your public profile picture.
Now every time you comment on a blog post or leave feedback somewhere online, people will recognize you by the same professional-looking image. It’s been a great way to create an online presence and make sure that any content associated with you looks consistent no matter where it is published.
Creating a Gravatar Account
The process of creating a Gravatar account is simple and straightforward – all you have to do is enter in your email address, confirm it through the confirmation email, and choose an avatar image or upload your own custom image.
Then, once logged into the Gravatar dashboard you can adjust settings for size and shape of your avatar as well as add additional wallet addresses or personal websites.
The best part about having a Gravatar account is that if your email address ever changes, all you have to do is update it in the settings and all of your profiles will automatically update with the new address – no need to worry about losing your avatar!
Now, let’s take a look at the first step in creating your own Gravatar – signing up for an account!
Step 1: Sign Up for an Account
Go to Gravatar.com and click the “Create My Avatar” button.

If you don’t have a WordPress.com (note the .com) account, you can scroll below and click “Already Have a WordPress Account?” – just wait – it will make sense.

This will take you to this screen, on which you can use Apple or Google signin. If you do not have those, you will need to create a WordPress.com Account.

Once you have an account, you’ll be directed to Gravatar.com. Click “Add One By Clicking Here” to upload your image.

Step 2: Upload Your Profile Image
You can choose from several different avatar images that are provided by Gravatar or upload your own custom image. These are mine over the years…

You can upload any size picture and then crop it after upload. You can preview, zoom in or out and crop.

Step 3: Verify Your Email Address
Once the Gravatar profile image is uploaded and looking perfect, you’ll need to verify your email address. This step is very important because it ensures that the profile picture you chose is displayed whenever you use your email address online.
All you have to do is enter the email address associated with your Gravatar account, then click the “Send Verification Email” button. A few seconds later, the email will appear in your inbox. Click the link in the email and voila! Your new profile pic is now officially linked to that email address!
Step 4: Link Your Profile with Other Platforms
Once your email address was verified, link your profile with other platforms. To do this, select the websites or blogging platforms that you wanted to link with your Gravatar profile. Include Twitter, WordPress, LinkedIn and more!
Customizing Your Gravatar Profile
In addition to uploading an image you have the option to add a bio that will follow you around.
Adding a Bio and Contact Information

All you have to do is log into your account and fill out the necessary fields under the “Edit Profile” section. Click “Submit” and that’s it!
Managing Multiple Emails on Gravatar
You can also manage multiple accounts. We have support account – with our logo since it is a group account. We have individual WPBarista accounts on gravatar too. And they’re all managed through my profile. I just add the email – You have to have access to the account emails if you do this. You verify the email, then you can add the photo, links, bio, etc.

Overall, managing multiple accounts on Gravatar couldn’t be easier. It is simple and secure, an easy way to manage your online presence in one easy step.
