“CapCut is now stealing your content and using it whenever and however they want – in perpetuity. ” says everyone since Friday.
Wow – when someone gets a click-bait to go viral it just goes crazy!
This is NOT true!!
Here’s a good rule of thumb that is copied directly from their terms of use:
“All User Content will be considered non-confidential. You must not upload… any User Content… that you consider to be confidential or proprietary… When you upload… User Content… you agree, represent and warrant that you own such User Content…”
The click-baiters are concerned with these paragraphs:
“…you acknowledge and agree that you allow us to upload such content to our server and hereby grant us and our affiliates, agents, services providers, partners and other connected third parties an unconditional, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully transferable (including sub-licensable), perpetual, worldwide license to use, modify, adapt, reproduce, make derivative works of, display, publish, transmit, distribute and/or store your User Content for providing the Services for you.”
Look at the end of the sentence – context is everything: “…for providing the Services for you.”
This wording has not changed in years. In fact – that wording is there so that they can actually host your video, optimize and compress the video, add templates and edit it… and more. If you want to use this service, you need to agree to use the service.
If you want CapCut (And TikTok, IG, FB and LinkedIn – they all have similar wording) to upload your video to their servers, you must agree to these terms.
This is not new. Nor unusual. Read it yourself here.
