Reason 2,145 to leave SiteGround.

Is this a SiteGround review?

Nope. This is a seething illustration of their unethical sales & marketing. This is an email I received this morning. Forwarded from a worried client who currently uses SiteGround as host.

Here’s a screenshot of what she received.

This looks like a helpful report on her site’s SCORE. Unfortunately for my client’s site is rated 65/120.

This is quite worrisome. My client forwarded this to me to see if I could help with these issues. Let’s look at what SiteGround says is happening and you decide if this is ethical.

SiteGround’s Score of Vicki’s WordPress Site

Issue #1: No active performance incidents (not sure what that is, but ok). Full points= 20 points!

Issue #2: Caching is not provided by SiteGround, Lose 10 points.
Remedy: use their caching plugin.

Issue #3: CDN: lose 20 points. She is not using their CDN.
Remedy: purchase their Premium CDN service.

Issue #4, 5: Datacenter and MySql database – all provided by SiteGround. Full points!

Issue #6: “Standard” PHP. Lose 5 points.
Remedy: Purchase a bigger hosting plan.

Issue #7, 8: WordPress Optimization: not provided by SiteGround. Lose 20 points.
Remedy: Install their plugin.

My review: Not a single issue on here is legit. Here are her Core web vital score on mobile, so you can compare. Plus she has a firewall, CDN on dns and we provide security 24/7 for her site.

Conclusion: Run from SiteGround

Moral of this story? Get yourself a techy friend that you can trust to vet these things. If you don’t have a kid/friend/spouse, you can hire someone (like me!) but whatever you do – don’t get taken by sleazy website hosts!
